Creative Director, BBC Open Music Prom
I have been appointed Creative Director for this season's 'Open Music Prom'. I'm going to be working alongside conductor Kwamé Ryan and 30 artists from across the country to create a unique evening of technology-infused storytelling.

Develop Your Creative Practice Grant
I am super excited to be able to say I’ve been awarded a DYCP grant by Arts Council England. Over the coming months I am going to be using this 'cultural recovery time' to explore how my practice can be expanded into Virtual Reality — learning to create interactive magic realist “opera” experiences for social good.

Opera Hack 2.0
I am celebrating finishing San Deiago Opera Hack 2.0 — a month long programme to discover new ways for technology to be used within opera.
Creative technologists, immersive artists, opera makers, games makers, VR artists all came together to share perspectives, knowledge and generate ideas, with the aim of funding a prototype for a project.

Grant for Research into Immersive Healing Ritual
I am (yet again) grateful to Arts Council England for a grant to research initial research phase of a project which will fuse together light, music and participatory singing. Exploring the relationship between sound healing, community singing and Pauline Oliveros' approach to 'deep listening', this work will form a mediative journey which invokes the collective imagination to create an immersive healing ritual post Covid-19.

Teaching Opera Creation at The Royal Academy of Music
From September 2019, I will be teaching Opera Creation at The Royal academy of Music, mentoring Masters and PhD composers and librettists as they create short operatic works over the coming year.

Presenting at Matera European Capital of Culture
In March, I heads to Matera to present 'A Shoe Full of Stars' at the RESEO training week 'Get Close to Opera,' in partnership with Opera Circus and L'Albero.

On Saturday 22nd September 2019 I will appear on Music Matters, talking with Sarah Dacey about the objects which inspired our opera Liquid History which brings The Thames to life.

A Shoe Full of Stars', a comic opera about 'umm... terrorism actually' has made national news! Appearing on breakfast news on ITV and on a 5 minute feature on channel 4, with footage taken from rehearsals. Catch it here.

I will soon be able to announce two special projects created over lockdown — a new libretto on a topic very close to my heart, (premiering Spring 2022), and a new digital 'flagship' project written & directed for English National Opera (Autumn 2021).

Working with Mahogany opera Group and Rosehill Theatre, Ruth brought three schools together for a large-scale performance of Phil Venables and Ted Huffman's The Big History of Little England. We got to the last week of rehearsals before the production was cancelled due to COVID-19.
